When growing up it’s likely that every little girl had a dream of how her wedding day would go. From the look of the venue she said her vows in, the colour, cut and style of the dress, through to the flowers which make up the bouquet and how she arrives. As we get older and meet “the one” our dream weddings will start to become a reality. However, it’s not until we start planning a wedding that we realise how much is involved – and also how much could go wrong. It’s for this reason that whether you’re planning your wedding for this Christmas, next summer or even further into the future you don’t overlook the importance of wedding insurance.
Many of us when thinking about insurance will automatically consider home, life and travel insurance, but very few will contemplate insuring our proposed weddings; yet when you consider everything that is involved in planning and holding a wedding you soon begin to realise how important the insurance is.
Ask any groom who has waited at the top of the aisle on their wedding day what their biggest fear was and you can be certain that it’ll be that their bride got cold feet and didn’t arrive. However, chances are if you ask any bride the same question it’s likely they’ll be able to provide you with a list of things which worried them from bad weather conditions stopping the guests reaching the venue through to falling down as they walk up the aisle and causing themselves a serious injury which ultimately prevents the ceremony from going ahead.
It’s events such as these that make wedding insurance a must for any bride and groom who are planning to get hitched. In-fact, the right level of insurance for your wedding could see you covered for a range of eventualities – not just those above – including:
- Cancellations – There are many reasons why a wedding may be cancelled and in the unfortunate situation that you have to cancel or postpone your wedding due to a reason covered by the insurance, whether at the last minute or in the months leading up to the big day, your wedding insurance will ensure that you don’t lose out financially
- Wedding attire – We spend weeks picking out the perfect wedding dress, suit and outfits for our bridesmaids and ushers so the last thing that we’d expect is something to go wrong with them. Whether they become damage in transit from the suppliers or don’t arrive at all, via the right insurance you could see yourself covered
- Wedding Cakes, Cars and Flowers – At various stages throughout the day, alongside the glowing bride and groom, the flowers, cars and cake will be a main feature and something which gets the guest talking and the cameras flashing. It’s therefore important to ensure that your insurance policy covers you in the eventuality that something goes wrong with any of these areas.
Not only can your wedding insurance offer protection should the unthinkable happen to one of the main components of the wedding ceremony but many insurance providers will also offer additional extras including public liability for all guests who attend, marquee cover for those who are opting for an outside wedding/reception and also ceremonial sword cover. Getting married abroad? Don’t worry as you’ll also be able to purchase an insurance policy which offers you protection whilst you’re away.
Whilst we’d all prefer that our weddings went by without a hitch, it’s important to ensure that in the unfortunate situation that something does go wrong, you are protected. As with all insurance, the level of protection you receive for various components of your wedding will depend solely on the level of cover you purchase. However, by going through an insurance firm who specialise in wedding insurance you can rest in the knowledge that whatever happens on your big day, you won’t lose out financially in the long run.
